Writing has always been a way to 'name' and make sense of my experiences and ideas. Often times, being a racialized visible Muslim woman I have felt nervous, shy and excluded to share my voice. The reasons for this have been because of the continued individual and systemic level of 'othering' and discrimination I face.

But now I am humbled and honoured to be in a place to 'create' a space for myself and share my experiences and ideas. I am 'making space' for myself whether I am invited, ignored or excluded at the 'table'. It is and has not been easy but my hope is that through my writing and speaking, that I continue 'making space'.
